A ton of this was incredibly interesting. It features 2 gender fluid main characters and a magic system that centers around transformation whether it be transforming oneself or other people. Someone has poisoned one of the main character's father, and she also known as Teodora goes on a mission to the capitol to receive the cure. The only problem is, the five families are expecting Teo's brother, her father's male heir. As Teo travels her companion, a strega (magic user) who can change from male, to female, to bird, to wind, and anything in between named Cielo tries to teach her how to transform into a boy.

An okay read for me, but it was written really well after the first half. I think I was less interested in the story later because I never grew to care for the characters in the beginning. I felt like the characters and pretty writing were being forced on me, and I ended up having to step away from the book for a few weeks and try again later. Ultimately, I ended up not caring enough even when darker events occurred.

Also, except for some names and terms of endearment, I didn't picture anything in Italy. It almost felt like it could have taken place in medieval England. However, I could have just felt indifferent to the setting because I was not pulled in otherwise.

I think I will give this author another try, but this didn't do it for me!
