I have to admit it took me 2 tries to finish this book. I had to be in the right mood for it. Once I did, it definitely drew me in. It was unlike anything I've read before. The blend of magic, gender-fluid and shape-shifters is unique. You learn about Teo and her family, a mafia like "family is first " group

Teo turns her father's enemies into objects, like music boxes. When her father is poisoned, she has to disguise herself and go to the capitol.
As Teo meets Cielo, and they figure out Teo's magic (and fall in love), you start to root for them. I loved expanding my scope of gender-fluid books, and am happy I got this from Bookishfirst as an ARC.

If you want an amazing blend of genres, go read this.
