Wonderful, Independent Cussy Carter

This was a moving novel about a packhorse librarian, Cussy Carter, who is the last of the blue people. This independent and determined young woman is very close and warm with her father, who is a miner, yet is still bull headed. The beginning of the book was so sad and harsh. I loved the packhorse library and the people that made it up. I listened to the audiobook and thought it was great entertainment. Being a packhorse librarian enriched the value of books and knowledge. I loved reading excerpts of her patrons reading and improving their knowledge each time she visited. When Cussy went to get her skin tested and changed. It was sad because on one hand she wanted to fit in like every young woman does but then she realized what made her special was sacrificed in the process. 5 stars
