“The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything– everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt’s Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome’s got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter.“

I love a good historial fiction book, and man did this deliver! It was so nice to read about a little known bit of US history! I loved how the author delivered some interesting information about the Pack Horse Librarians, and also made me really like the characters and care about what was going on in their lives. Her writing really drew me in!

The fact that the main character, Cussy, is one of the blue skinned people of Kentucky added a layer to the story that made it stand out among other books in the genre. You really understand what it felt like for her to be a person with so many things against her while she was living in Kentucky- a woman, and a minority.

This is a story about how far courage and belief in what’s right can take you in life!
