One of my top picks for this year!
Oh this book! It just got me in all the right places! I really struggled to put this down at all -- I wanted to read straight through to see what was going to happen next for Cussy Mary. In this book, Author Kim Michele Richardson paints the most exquisitely detailed picture of what life would have been like during the depression in the Kentucky hills.
I did not love the last 10% or so of the story, but that takes a such a tiny bit off my final score that I can't help but give this 5 stars. I strongly recommend this read -- it was fascinating and equal parts uplifting and heartbreaking.
Badass Female Character Score: 5/5 -- Cussy Mary is a total badass, standing up for herself and others in really tough times. One tough, tough lady!
