I may be biased (a librarian from the south), but I really enjoyed this book! It had charm and warmth, likeable characters, and an easy pace. This historical fiction must have been well researched--the details and characters were phenomenal! I had no prior knowledge of the Blue People of Kentucky, so this book introduced me to a bit of historical information. Also included in the story was information on coal mining and how it affected the people of the area.

Cussy Mary Carter didn't have an easy life but she made the best of it and tried to help others along the way. She brought books to folks who otherwise would not have access. She wanted to live her life on her terms. She was a strong character and I liked her a lot.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in librarianship, the south, and historical information.
