This book was such a pleasant surprise! The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek takes place in rural Kentucky and teaches us about the packhorse librarians of the earlier 1900s. I am from Kentucky and I'm a librarian and I didn't know about these librarians! It was so interesting to learn a bit about the lives of these courageous women, the trails and struggles that they faced, as well as the challenges of the blue-skinned Kentuckians like Cussy Mary. There is love, fighting, hope, perseverance, and much more in this amazing tome. Although there are some parts of the story that are tough to read, it's so worth it to walk around in Cussy Mary's world and to see how resilient people can be. While the prejudices she faced are unique, we can still identify with her struggles and celebrate her victories. I would definitely recommend this book to readers who enjoy historical fiction and romance.
