I did not like this book at all!!! I was expecting to love it because I am from KY and I was very interested in learning more about the history behind book women of KY. I had only heard of it from reading another book recently called The Giver of Stars- which I really liked. That book had me really invested in the characters while this book did not. I didn’t feel a strong connection to anyone in the book.
I had such a hard time getting into it to where I would find myself doing anything else besides reading it. There wasn’t a lot of character development, I didn’t love reading all the abuse and stuff and I felt the end was super rushed- they should have spent time building up what ended up happening near the end- I mean I enjoyed that part but overall I just really didn’t like it. I don’t mind depressing books but this almost seemed forced.
