I really enjoyed both this story and my reading experience while listening to it on audiobook. The narrative having a southern accent really added to the atmosphere and made me connect to the southern Kentucky vibe that the author was going for. Prior to reading this book I had not heard of the Blueskin people of Kentucky. I found the history portion if that family very interesting. It is sad how they were treated and shunned from the "whites" in the society. I also loved the horseback librarians who delivered books to the community. It was such an amazing thing that they did to support reading, kids, and families who did not have a lot of money or access to education even. This book definetly had some dark moments that were not for the weak of heart- trigger warnings for violence, rape, and some severe racism. The hospital scenes were also quiet rough. Overall this was a very good read!
