First, they absolutely MUST make a movie of this book. Cussy Mary, Junia her mule and Jackson are three of my favorite characters of all time. I feel like I have personally got to know every person in this book. If I actually had met all the people, I would no doubt be a better person. There is nothing better than a book that feels so real. Kim Michele Richardson outdid herself giving a voice to the hill people of the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky. So much to learn about in this book. You will learn about the Blue People, and the Pack Horse Library Project which was developed by President Roosevelt to provide jobs for women and bring education to the people of Appalachia. Women were hired by the government and paid to deliver books by horse and mule, to people, through the treacherous terrain of the Appalachian Mountains, so that all people could learn to read and learn to love books. Grab a giant box of Kleenex and be prepared to cry your eyes out. It is going to be difficult to find my next read.
