I had a really hard time getting in to this book. The concept was interesting, and I love historical fiction, but I felt like the story was a little slow. I enjoyed the arc of the characters, and the stories that we got to live with them, I felt like the cadence of writing and action was a bit slower and more drawn out than I normally prefer.
The perseverance exhibited in the book of all the characters, including Cussy and her library patrons were heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. The relationships were portrayed realistically and the author did a good job connecting you to the struggles and trumps of each member of the story.
All in all, this book made me grateful for the abundance of quality books I have access to on a regular basis and caused me to think long and hard about those who go without. Thank goodness for people like Cussy who made a difference!
