What a great book! I could not put it down. Cussy and her library! I never knew about the blue-skinned people of Kentucky and the Kentucky Pack Horse library service. I learned a lot with this book. The Pack Horse Library Project was established in 1935 by President Roosevelt’s Work Progress Administration. It was started to bring jobs to women and also reading materials to the poor and isolated areas.
Overall, it was well written historical novel. Cussy is a very likable character who was born into a world that does not accept her skin color. There are people in the novel that want to "save her" including a preacher. She also is very brave to bring the written word to others who live in the furthest parts of Kentucky. She meets a lot of people along her journeys.
