I really really enjoyed reading this book.
Cussy was called the blue woman because of a genetic disorder. She always felt a bit out of place.
After her mother died she was forced to marry an older man. But then circumstances occured that he died. Then her dad came and got her and took her home.
Then an opportunity to become a bookwoman presented itself and cussy was thrilled to be part of that. Was hauling books on a mule up the holler to kids who had no access. This book takes place in Kentucky. So cussy was ostracized in the community because of her color. Slowly she got to know the people in the hollow and did what small things she could to help them. She found a modicum of acceptance and respect. She even found love in the end. But she definitely had a journey to find her place. Excellent read
