A story for book lovers
The story follows Cussy, a blue person in Appalachia Kentucky who serves as a pack horse librarian, delivering books and increasing literacy among the impoverished hill people.
This was a beautiful story of how books can make an impact on one's life and unite a community. It was well-researched and portrayed a unique period in our country's history, and two topics I hadn't previously heard of: pack horse librarians and the blue-skinned people of Kentucky. The story highlights strength and perseverance while taking a hard look at poverty, discrimination, and oppression. I loved our heroine, Book Woman Cussy, and enjoyed getting to know the cast of characters she meets along her routes.
It took me a little while to get into this one, but it ultimately warmed my heart and I'd recommend to all book and library lovers.
