This is the story of 19-year-old Cussy Mary Carter who lives in Troublesome Creek, Kentucky. She joins the "Book Women" of the Pack Horse Library Project where she rides through the mountains on her mule to deliver books to her impoverished neighbors. Cussy is also one of the last living "blue people" of Kentucky.

I loved this story. I loved Cussy's tenacity, her love of people and her love of books. She takes the time to care for, read to, and get to know all of her patrons - and in turn, you fall in love with the characters. In addition, I really enjoyed the recognition of the hardship and discrimination that Cussy faces as a blue person. It was appalling to read about how she was treated because of the color of her skin. Overall, I recommend this book!
