The cover art for The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek is a little too pretty for the harshness of life in rural Kentucky. Cussy Mary Carter, a blue-skinned young lady whose passion for books leads her to a job as a traveling librarian, is an interesting main character whose story is very realistic for the time period of the novel. Readers who like historical fiction, especially those which originate in the United States during the 20's and 30's, would enjoy exploring the harsh landscape of the Appalachians.
