The voice and setting are very strong in this excerpt, we get an immediate sense for how hard the protagonist works to make a modest living as the Book Woman in not only because it's the back woods of Kentucky but because of her blue skin. The people's enthusiasm for the books she delivers is wonderful to see as a reader, but the dark edge of how she's discriminated against and violent misogyny will make this an emotional, thought-provoking read for sure.
