This book checked so many boxes of things I love to read about. Librarians? Check. Magic (but not in an unbelievable, or eyerolling way?)? Check. Sweet, Southern small town? Check! The cover compared this to Practical Magic and Garden Spells, and while my memory of the former is hazy, Sarah Addison Allen is an autoread author for me, and I thought this was a fair comparison (and I'll definitely be reading anything else Karen Hawkins writes, especially if she continues Dove Pond as a series). I actually had expected that this story was going to lean more heavily on Sarah, the librarian character and her "magic" of knowing which books a person needed, but it was actually fairly balanced between her, Grace (the prickly newcomer to town), and Travis, Grace's neighbor and Sarah's friend. The ending was a little bittersweet, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
