Talking Books, Foster Homes - a lot is going on!

I wasn't sure that this story was going to interest me when the first chapter started talking about books about dragons, but then the next chapter totally switched gears and I was interested in the story of Hannah and Grace. I instantly cared about them and wanted them to be accepted in their new foster home. Then - what the heck- in the next chapter, one of the girls has already died and I guess all I have left to say is: there is a lot going on. The connection between chapter one and the next two chapters has not been established; that is probably the plot for the rest of the book. I am curious to find out where this is going.
