I love the beautiful cover and the world building is exquisite. I adored the characters, particularly Fatima, Hassan, and Gwennec. I liked having the jinn as part of the story as a very different way than one usually sees. I adored the focus on friendship and on the different types of love. I especially adored how love leads to sacrifice, and the themes of hatred and fear of what is different. I enjoyed the first half of the book much more than the second half. I would still read this author again as I loved so much about this story. I enjoyed the historical element to what is a fantasy story. I am not sure what could have been changed to make this a four star read for me but I did enjoy the escapism.
