The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson is the first book I have read by her, and loved it. I love the story of Fatima and her dear friend Hassan. After some of the Spanish new formed Spanish Monarchy come to discuss the Sultans surrender, some things are set some things in motion. Not everyone sees Hassan's gift as great asset, but something much darker and sinister. Fatima cannot let her best and longest friend be put to death because of who others perceive him. Knowing that Fatima has to escape with Hassan, to save his life, only to put her life in such a great risk. and possibly a serious problem for the Spanish monarchy. As Fatima and Hassan journey to a safe place, they find more about the people they encounter, themselves and what they are willing to do for one another.
