She tries, and succeeds, in building a connection between the main characters, Fatima and Hassan, and the reader. The first few pages whet your interest in learning more about them and their lives.

The author has done a great job mixing fantasy and historical fiction, and this book is a real page-turner. I wanted to read on; I wanted to find out what happened next.
