Historicals, especially ages ago, are always hit or miss for me. Geography and history were my worst subjects. I just have a hard time keeping it all straight in my head. Too early to tell with The Bird King, but it's got me interested with the characters and intrigue. I did have to stop myself from skimming over the sight seeing door adventure. I wish previews included maps when a book has them. I really hope The Bird King comes with a map.
