A fun, dramatic YA novel!
Song/s the book brought to mind: I Want Crazy by Hunter Hayes
It has been awhile since I have read a contemporary young adult book, so I decided to pick up The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund and I'm happy I did! It was an adorable debut, but it will also make you think. There is plenty of teenage angst and drama in the book and lots of talk about sex, but I think I was in the mood for a book like that because I enjoyed all of it. Many parts seemed to be realistic, and I loved Keely and Andrew and I wish I had gotten even more of them together.
The Best Laid Plans has a lot of mixed reviews, so I was happy to have enjoyed it as much as I did. It was an escape read for me and had lots of parts that made me laugh out loud. I listened to the audio and even though her voice annoyed me at times, I thought Rachel L. Jacobs was a great fit for Keely since her voice sounds young enough and is kind of what I would imagine Keely to sound like. Overall she did a really good job with the audiobook and I would definitely recommend checking it out.
If you're in the mood for a YA novel that is full of drama then The Best Laid Plans might be for you. I loved the friendship themes throughout and it was definitely on the lighter side of books I've read lately. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it was funny and enjoyable for me and I can't wait to read whatever Lund writes next!
