I must admit: I almost did not read the First Look preview pages because of the cover design. Just too cartoonish was my impression. It almost looked more like an elementary school book cover than YA. However, the opening scene is truly believable than I thought it would be: high school party in a small town in Vermont with alcohol being served, teenagers hooking up, and everyone immediately knowing who has done what with whom. Keely is the first-person narrator who believes she is the only virgin left in her school. (She's not 50% of the hook-up couple who leaves behind a used condom on the parents' nightstand, not the naked girl in the opening scene.) I think I would read the rest of this book. There are some very realistic descriptions of teenage behavior and dialogue, including the school scene where classroom discussion groups turn out to be gossip sessions to waste away the class period. As for the rating? This is one of those times I am not sure, but I like to give an author the benefit of the doubt after all the hard work. Also, I DID say that I finished the preview pages with a willingness to read the rest... so a 4 it is. I'm not quite sure if it would be a higher rating for me, but I am definitely curious to read the rest and find out for sure.
