Promising Must-Read
I have been dying to read this book and this excerpt does not disappoint. The book is set in a romanticized futuristic New Orleans, I believe, and it depicts a world where beauty is prized above everything else. The people within the city remind me of the people of the Capital in The Hunger Games as they are willing to do anything in the name of beauty and fashion.
At the start of the book, the sentences were a little choppy, short, and simplistic, but I feel that it provides insight into Camellia. The simple sentences illustrate she never learned how to successfully convey her thoughts because she was always focused on being the best Belle. I am also a little confused on how the beauty transformation process happens and the steps taken during it, so I hope that it will be thoroughly explained in the following chapters.
Overall though, I am very excited to see where this book goes because I feel like there is a lot of promise in these first two chapters.
