I am not entirely sure what I was expecting when I picked up this book by Clayton - in fact, to this day, I am not sure if I was in the minority or not in my dislike of it! I was expecting a dystopian, Hunger Games-esque story, and what I got felt so superficial and "odd" to me that I just couldn't connect with the text. I think I might have liked it more as a teenager - I am 31 now, and YA doesn't fit with me the way it used to - but it just felt like a story that was stilted and rudderless. There is a published sequel, so it can't have been THAT bad - maybe it was just me and my expectations. The market is saturated with dystopians all trying to be the next big one, and not all of them can be. That's OK!
