The Belles is an exciting novel with a very original aesthetic concept, it is an incredible world that I found very interesting. It follows Camellia, who is a belle, someone who is naturally beautiful with the ability to make other people beautiful. She is determined and eager to be the favorite of the royal court, but is taken aback by all the secrets and dramas of court life.
I was very excited by the concept behind this book and the world was very well established. If that is the kind of book you enjoy then this will be fantastic for you. My issue was that I was engaged by the main character. I couldn't relate to her and I couldn't understand her. I found myself getting either bored with the slow story or frustrated with the way the plot progressed.
I was half way through the book when I realized that nothing particularly interesting had happened. I didn't hate the book, there are really good things in here, but not enough of what I like. In short, this book just wasn't right for me.
