Interesting concept
In a world where the nondescript is the norm but not the desired. The Belles are a singled out by being the most beautiful when born and the most colorful.
It would seem that being extra colorful or bright and beautiful where the average born person of the population has skin pallid, gray, and shriveled, eyes cherry red, hair like straw—as if all the color was leached out of them, leaving behind the shade of freshly picked bones and ash. ( this is from the book) you would think that the Belles would be the ones considered garish, curd and over flamboyant and undesired but no not in this world.
The Belles can create change in people they can change them to look more like the Belles themselves but for a price. So I just find it rather odd that a small handful of people can sway a whole population. I know I'm over thinking a fiction book set in a fiction setting but honestly I believe the men and women of Orleans are acting like a bunch of lemmings.
