The Belles was an interesting book, with its premise surrounding vanity and magic. I originally picked up the book because of the cover, which of course is beautiful.

Dhonielle Clayton did a fantastic job with her world building. I could really picture myself there.

Overall the writing was good and kept me interested/engaged; however, there were some points where the overarching message was kind of beating you like a dead horse.

Another dislike was the romance Clayton wrote. It seemed a bit like she wanted there to be a romantic aspect so she added it, instead of the characters coming together naturally. Unlike Camellia's relationship with her sisters which seemed well thought out and displayed.

I'd probably read the next one.
