Gorgeous and Incredibly Important Book
AMAZING commentary on body dysmorphia and on the toxic culture of beauty. The mythology and the combination of science and magic in this book was just gorgeous. It was a much more exciting read than I anticipated and I was really interested in the character development of a lot of the supporting characters, though I did find Camille frustratingly naive at times, which slowed down a lot of the major plot points, which gave this book four stars instead of five. I'm definitely planning on picking up the next book to read and I think there's more than enough interesting things happening in terms of plot and action... but even more than that, the writing was just incredibly beautiful.
Even when I was frustrated with the characters, the writing and the imagery continued to be absolutely lovely. But really, how can an entire society basically just eat that much sugar all the time. (Literally all the foods described were sweets. Holy moly.)
