The Belles was one of my favorite young adult reads in recent memory! Dhonielle Clayton knocks it out of the park with this clever dystopian novel about a group of young women for whom beauty is the most prized of all commodities.

Clayton manages to subvert typical YA books by using some of the themes that control characters as a central plot line in her book - the power that comes with beauty and the lengths one will go in order to be beautiful.

A group of Belles are selected annually, and they have the power and magic to bestow beauty. All named after flowers, it is not enough to be a Belle, Camellia desires to be the one chosen to live at the royal palace.

Just as the saying goes that beauty is only skin deep, not everything is as it appears. And, the Belles will learn that their power comes at a great price.
