Eh, this one is a pass.
Ah yes, a low review for a fairly popular book... But it doesn't mean this review or my thoughts on the book are negative, quite the opposite, I thought The Belle's to be fairly decent a story, the writing style wasn't bad or hard to comprehend or read, and the characters weren't just one note blobs of ink on paper.
So why such a low review?
I've read a story that was similar, and in my opinion, done better.
To me, The Belle's feels very similar in story to Kiera Cass's The Selection, and in no means am I saying its an imitation or a copy, or that Ms. Clayton is trying to copy a story. But there are similarities, and I felt that Kiera Cass did the story better. Especially since I felt Dhonielle Clayton's The Belle's had a few parts I felt to be dry and boring, whereas, with the Selection, I couldn't put it down.
I would recommend it if you were a fan of the Selection, but wanting a slower paced book with its own fun cast of characters. I might come back to this book in the future to give it another go, and if so, another review to give it.
