I didn't win this book in the raffle, but I got it at my library after it was released, cause the first look intrigued me so much. and DAY-UM, was it a beautiful, terrifying wild ride! I had one of those perfectly transcendent YA reading experiences while reading The Belles. You know, when you read a book that's so fresh and new that you are completely engrossed... When I read The Hunger Games (book one) it was the same way (until the dystopia trend took over and RUINED THE YA WORLD)

The Belles is set in an opulent, Marie Antoinette-like world where beauty is everything, and one class of people hold the keys. But sinister things lie in wait at court. dun-dun-DUNNNN.
This book had everything- gorgeous descriptions, names that were not impossible to pronounce, sisterhood, bad baddies, and tiny elephants. and, OH YEAH. the author is a woman of color... and the main character isn't fair skinned with red/brunette hair in a braid. (so refreshing. much wow.) and CHECK THAT COVER, YO!

-Eagerly awaiting book two.
