Beautiful Story
This story was very beautiful. I initially did not think I was going to get to the end, but I would glance at reviews (those without spoilers) and was convinced to continue.
With that said, yes, the beginning was slow to me. Although, considering that this is the beginning of a trilogy, I can see why it started off the way it did. The author was ensuring adequate character and world building.
I do think that the characters were well thought out. I did often find some of the personality traits to be unconvincing, but I think that may have been the intention.
Although I am giving it 4 stars, I do have to admit that the overall story arc and ending did not leave me wanting to continue with book two.
What I did appreciate most was the depth of cruelty that we saw from the princess. Even though I did not like her one bit, it was good to see a female character written as such a mean villain.
