Wow was this a surprise! I admit, I usually shy away from covers with pictures (I know, silly reason) but once I read the jacket, I had to give it a try. I really don’t think I have read a book quite like this. The world is so cleverly drawn with beauty and originality (where can I get a post balloon?!) Beauty is viewed as a luxury to be paid for and longed for by the poor. If you can’t buy it, your color is grey, but if you can, the sky is the limit for what can be done by a cherished Belle. Camille is one of those cherished Belle and longs to be the queen’s selected favorite, but then is drawn into at world dark and dangerous and evil.
This book is so much more than I expected. The magic is creative and new and the villain, crazy, frustrating and evil. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a very different world.
