I had no idea that I needed a book like the Belles by Dhonielle Clayton in my life. Really, no idea. I have a love/hate relationship with Rococo paintings, but when I look at them, I think: That's why we had the French Revolution. I'm not sure if Clayton wanted this to be like being fully immersed in a Rococo painting, but I felt that way. I loved every moment of it. In fact, it was better. It was better because Clayton built an incredible world with such beautiful characters. While their focus is beauty, they really are beautiful in a fully developed sort of way.

Following Camellia throughout the court of Orléans was quite a thrilling experience where I had no idea what to expect. Now I am a sucker for books about royalty, but wow, this was still quite shocking. The layers of the characters at court that Camellia must learn all while doing her best to understand her powers create an incredible read to draw any reader in so you need to read it. Please. I need everybody to read this so I can obsess over the book.
