In just two short chapters, Rosen immerses readers in the celebratory atmosphere of the Ruby, a queer bar in 1950s San Francisco. Andy Mills, having been kicked out of the police force when he was caught in a raid on a gay bar, is now living above the Ruby and working as a P.I. Business is slow when in walks an ex-boyfriend, James, who Andy hasn’t seen since his Navy days. James is being blackmailed and needs Andy’s help.

In this first look at the second installment of historical mysteries featuring Andy Mills, readers are thrown right into the story. The setting comes alive with music and dancing and characters of all genders and orientations building a vibrant nightlife. We start to get glimpses of Andy’s past, a past he’d rather not revisit, and feel the possibility of danger as he takes on an assignment that’s a big step up from trailing cheating lovers.

Its apparent from the first look that The Bell in the Fog is a fast-paced mystery full of interesting and diverse characters that will keep readers turning the pages and I, for one, can’t wait to read the rest!
