This book was amazing. I was instantly transported to 1800s New Orleans, thanks to the atmospheric prose, the inclusion of French dialogue, and the likable characters. Celine Rousseau, a seventeen-year-old Parisian who is fleeing an incriminating secret, is the heroine of the book. She relocates to New Orleans, where she encounters both friends and foes and discovers that some things, some people, are not as they seem.
The novel's implicit themes of self-identity and acceptance, as well as not hiding who you are because of society, were well-woven throughout.
The third person POVs give us insight into each character, while the first person POV brings intrigue and suspense to the plot. This book was riddled with well-detailed plot twists that I didn't see coming but made perfect sense once explained. Even though the romance seemed a bit too instant for my tastes, I really enjoyed it.
The writing is beautiful in general! I can't tell enough about how well written this book is. I would strongly suggest it.
