This is a vampire story set in New Orleans in the 1800s. In my personal opinion, this book was way too overhyped. I've read blurbs saying this will bring the vampire trope back, but in my opinion, this will further kill the trope. Renee Ahdieh has beautiful writing; however, I have not been able to get into any of the books that she has written, and this was no different. I think part of my problem was I went into this book expecting the vampire aspect to be more prominent, or that one of the main characters would be a vampire, however, I was completely wrong, so I was disappointed. The mystery kept me reading, but I was very disappointed in the ending and who the killer was. It wasn't that shocking. This book was just way to overhyped for me.
