I had really high hopes for The Beautiful, first because of the gorgeous cover, and second, because vampires! Vampires in a young adult fantasy. I'm here for it! Sadly, The Beautiful did not live up to my expectations. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. It was my first book by Renee Ahdieh as well, and I'm hoping I'll love the rest of her books more.
The Beautiful is set in New Orleans, which was probably my favorite aspect of the book. I loved this setting, this background, but I wish some things in the world-building were fleshed out some more. There's a romance, but it never felt substantial enough to me. Everything felt superficially told, when I just wanted to dive deeper into this world and story.
