To start, I'm putting this at a neutral three star rating because I did indeed DNF it. I feel like I cannot fully rate this novel low because I didn't completely finish it. The first couple chapters fell very flat for me. I was upset by this realization since Renée is one of my favorite authors, but I think over the years I've slowly come out in a different viewpoint.
ALSO, vampire books are weird for me. Twilight was okay for me back in the day, but I could never read that guilty pleasure read now. Vampires just have to have this certain finesse, and these versions just sadly didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll come back to it one day, but for now I can't. Over the years, vampires have become this brutal symbol in my head, so it just doesn't compute when there's vampires that empathize with the humans. My adult bias in books is showing...
Anyway, this review is not meant to say this book is bad necessarily. It's just not for me.
