I had not read a vampire book since I was a teenager so this was such a pleasant surprise of a novel. The historical setting wasn’t tossed aside and there was appropriate conflicts for the biracial main character. I thought that made the story more rich and interesting seeing the wya that intersected with the events of the story. Celeste as a main character was headstrong and so much from to read from her perspective discovering what was going on at the same time that we were. The setting was so rich and luxe and well described I felt like I was there in the court of lions. I am so happy the sequel is now released and I will be able to find out the way Celeste’s story is going to end. Although I’m not sure I’m ready to leave it all behind.
