As a big fan of vampire books and TV shows such as Twilight and Vampire Diaries, I gotta say The Beautiful fell flat for me. The book is a mix between YA, historical fiction, fantasy, mystery and romance. The YA and historical aspects were spot on... the rest? Not so much. I was thinking the vampire aspect would be more at the forefront of the storyline. Rather, it was more of a background plot, and could have been developed more. The book failed to really set up the world of vampires (such as the history and rules of the world such as how one becomes a vampire). The mystery of who was the vampire terrorizing New Orleans wasnt great -- the reveal was anti climactic and they didnt leave hardly any clues as to who it was. Finally, the love story between Celine and Bastien was unbelievable and was incredibly rushed, as was the ending. I did like Celine's character. She was portrayed as a strong female, unlike Bella in Twilight or Elena in Vampire Diaries.
