This was not for me (1.5 rating).

Celine is annoying for lack of a better term. Everything and anything a male figure says to her is quickly turned into an insult. She is perpetually insulted. Honestly a whiny brat. This made it very hard to connect with her. Sébastien leaves much to be desired. He's supposed to be a secondary prominent character in this story but I ended feeling like I knew nothing about him except that he was too beautiful and apparently akin to Lucifer. Honestly Odette was the most fascinating character.

The book is supposed to be a paranormal murder mystery type and just like the rest of the world I was intrigued when my favorite word "vampire" graced the synopsis. Well don't get excited folks, it took me until 47% into the book before we really hit on vampires. Yes it's insinuated but the vampires most readers are desiring are not in this book. At least not for me. Good news though for murder mystery fans is that the killer is definitely NOT easy to figure out.

Exceptionally repetitive with no real historical value. Sadly lacking in the picture I was hoping it would paint of New Orleans during that time. IF you decide to listen instead of read the voice used to depict the killer is atrocious. I had to put the reading speed on 2.5 just to get past it (fun fact you'll still be able to understand it at that speed). However, the rest of the characters are very well done by the narrator. I could've done with less mental shrieking every time Celine was offended though.
