In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, she quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city. She becomes embroiled in the city’s underworld, after catching the eye of the leader, Sébastien. When bodies of young girls start to appear, she becomes gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the loose, one she is sure has set her in his sights, and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart.
I have mixed feelings about this book, I loved the setting, the atmosphere and the characters, but the story was a little slow for me, I did liked it but I kept expecting more.
I’ve heard book two is better, so I’m going to keep reading this series.
