It Was Disappointing

This book disappointed me. I had enjoyed other books by this author immensely, so i was expecting this to be great. Sadly, it wasn't.

The cover on this book was gorgeous. It did follow the trend of other vampire books, with the color scheme of black, white and red, with one central picture, but whatever, it was supposed to be a vampire book. But where were the vampires?? We meet one vampire, and it's in the last 10% of the book. For a book with a blurb mentioning vampires, I expected much better. I do have to say, that I haven't read Twilight, or any other vampire books, so I have nothing to compare this to. I use wish this embraced the ideas of vampires more, it would've made this much more interesting.

I'm still confused on so many points. Who the heck are the Brotherhood and Fallen? I get that they're immortal, but that's about it. Why was the murderer killing people who had no connection to Celine, if Celine was the goal? Why was there a rivalry between the murderer and the Saint-Germaine? Why was there a rivalry between Michael and Bastien? Anyway, you get the idea. For a book that was over 400 pages long, I expected some answers.

I wasn't a fan of the characters in this either. Michael was the most interesting one to me, but we barely get to meet him. On top of that, he somehow falls in love with Celine after meeting her once, in which he insulted her. Celine was just one huge issue to me, mostly because of her repetitiveness. I'm never a fan of characters who go on and on about how they are "bad" because they did one debatable thing. (view spoiler)Her relationship with Bastien was also a mess. She was hot and cold, hating him one second, kissing him the next. She also mentioned how she wanted to be more than her body all the time, but would then use her body to get what she wanted. I liked Celine's unflinchingness, and her bravery, but her other character traits were irritating.

What in the world was up with the ending? The majority of the book was very slow moving, but the last 40 pages of this were action-packed. Of course, it ended on a complete cliffhanger to set up for the next book, leaving many things unexplained. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue on to the next book because this one disappointed me so much, but I might.
