I liked it but I didn't love it
First off, I really like vampire books (Dracula, Twilight, Vampire Academy, My Blood Approves, House of Night, etc) so I was pretty excited to see that vampires are making a bit of a comeback. The plot/blurb sounded great. I liked the first look preview as well.
That said, this one kind of fell flat for me and really just felt very long (to the point where I was tempted to skim).
It had some good points but I don't see myself finishing the series. I know the author is really popular for her previous duologies and maybe had I read those I'd have had a better idea of what to expect (or maybe they're just better).
I did like the setting (New Orleans, a convent - both cool). I felt like I was supposed to like some of the characters, especially Celine, but I just didn't connect.
I think maybe what I liked most was the actual book cover which felt like it could have been part of the Twilight series (had it continued with spin-offs or something). Coincidence or smart marketing strategy? Hmm.
Overall, I'm still curious about Ahdieh's previous works but, the way I feel now, I'll probably pass on continuing this story.
