1872 New Orleans and Celine Rousseau has left her native France for a convent. Celine loved the city, especially in the middle of carnival season. But both the city and Celine are hiding something dark. Girls from the convent are showing up dead and Celine has been chosen as the next target. She finds herself in much deeper trouble, in the middle of an old feud between immortals.

I really enjoyed this book. I love Renée Ahdieh’s writing. The way she is able to make you love her characters. She said on a podcast that this book has a “seething undercurrent of rage,” and I could agree or love it more.

I loved the setting of this book. It’s beautiful and vivid. Made even better by having it be carnival season. I loved the descriptions of the food and the clothing.

I can’t wait for more in this series.
