Remember that time in the early 2010's when all of media featured hot broody vampires, and then it got so overdone that it vanished just as quickly? Well, I for one am grateful to see recent books on vampires again, it's been long enough to finally see them again! If that's not enough to bring immediate interest, the book is set in New Orleans, 1872. This is definitely a setting that can be played around with in a fun way, but upon reading it kind of hits a moot point. The historical setting, which should be used to further the story, seems to not be enhanced at all to make the reader feel like it's legit. I have seen other reviewers say this could easily have taken place in a different time setting and I have to agree.
